The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (Subclass 186) through the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream is designed for skilled workers who have been employed in Australia under a Subclass 457 or Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, or Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (Subclass 482) and want to transition to permanent residency.

What You Can Do With This Visa

  • Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the TRT Stream, you must:

  • Visa Type:Hold a Subclass 457, TSS, or SID (Subclass 482) visa or related Bridging visa A, B, or C.
  • Employment: Have worked for your nominating employer full-time for at least two years while holding a Subclass 457 or TSS visa.
  • Nomination: Be nominated by an Australian employer whose nomination was approved within the 6 months before you apply.

How Long You Can Stay

This is a permanent visa, allowing you to stay in Australia indefinitely.

  • If in Australia: Permanent residency starts on the day the visa is granted.
  • If outside Australia: Permanent residency begins the day you enter Australia on this visa.

Family Inclusion

You can include eligible family members in your visa application:

  • Your partner.
  • Dependent children or stepchildren.
  • Family members holding a Subclass 457 or Subclass 482 visa (granted as family members).

Family members must meet health and character requirements.

Process to Apply

  • Check Your Eligibility: Ensure you meet the requirements for the TRT Stream.

Regional Sponsored Visa – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Majority of Australia is considered a regional area in terms of visa requirements except for the major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Under the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) visa, you can apply for permanent residency after three years if you meet all the remaining criteria.

Casual work experience is not currently accepted by the Department to meet the work experience requirement of three years.

Your subclass 494 visa cannot be extended however if you meet the requirements you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency.
